Guten Tag,

Da die Ameisen in der Winterruhe sind und sich deswegen die Beobachtungen nur auf eine Kontrolle beschränkt, wird es hier nur ein kurzes Update geben.

Den Ameisen geht es gut. Alle scheinen noch wohlauf zu sein.

Einen fröhlichen Barbaratag Euch allen!

Ich habe noch einmal mit ein wenig mehr Ruhe ein paar Bilder und ein Video gemacht.
Das Video reiche ich die Tage mal nach.

Es sind übrigens Larven und sie springen umher. :D

Ich lasse die Ameisen jetzt erst einmal für ca. eine Woche in Ruhe, da ich jetzt zwei Tage hintereinander geschaut und ein Fotoshooting veranstaltet habe, was sie wohlmöglich gestresst hat.

Mit dem Apfel-Handy lassen sich doch ganz gute Bilder machen.

A happy "Barbara-Day" to everyone!

I made some more pics and one video with more patience. I will show you the video in a few days.

The breed are grubs and they jumping around! :D

I will give the ants now any peace for round about a week, because I checked them two days in a row.

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe mal eines der Makro-Objektive ausprobiert und bin doch relativ zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis.

Preis-/Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt also.

Hier seht ihr die ersten Bilder aus der Winterruhe.
Ein paar Ameisen waren doch relativ agil und sind trotz konstanter Temperatur von 7°C unterwegs gewesen.

Man erkennt sehr gut die Königin auf den Bildern.
Sind das nun Eier oder Larven?

Hello all,

I tested my new macro-lens already and I am satisfied with the result.

Price-performance-ratio is very good.

Above you can see the first pics while the ants are in dormancy.

A few ants are agile and are moving around while the temperature is steadily 7°C.

You can clearly see the queen with her workers and brute.
Are those eggs or grubs?

Im Moment übe ich mit der Farm, was die Befeuchtung angeht. Gestern die Farm angefangen zu befeuchten und siehe da, die Feuchtigkeit zieht schnell durch und fast alles ist durch die Nässe dunkler gefärbt. Mal schaun, wann ich wieder befeuchten muss.

So beuge ich Fehlern vor und lerne den Umgang mit Deckel abnehmen, ohne den (noch nicht vorhandenen) Ausbruchsschutz zu beschädigen und zu befeuchten.

Darüber hinaus habe ich mir vorerst Aufsätze für mein Handy bestellt, um mit diesen Makroaufnahmen zu machen.
Wenn diese eintreffen, werde ich Testbilder machen. Auch und vor allem von der Kleinstkolonie, der es gut geht. Alle sind wohl auf und warten geduldig - wie ich - die Winterruhe ab.

Hier die Produkte, die ich für die Fotografie bestellt habe:

Da ich nicht allzu viel Zeit habe, denke ich, dass ich mit dieser Fotografie-Lösung gut klar kommen werde. Falls irgendwann man Zeit und Geld über bleibt, werde ich mich um eine Spiegelreflexkamera mit Makroobjektiv kümmern.

Zusätzlich habe ich noch Bastelwatte bestellt (250g). Hoffe das, diese korrekt ist.

Now I am testing and training with the farm, how I moisten it and how long does it take.
The moistness goes very quick through the farm 

I am looking forward to checking the next time, when the farm need more water.

I am doing this, because I didn't want to make mistakes with the ants.

Moreover I bought some equipment for my smartphone. With this equipment I hope to make some better macro pics of the ants.

The ants are doing well and are waiting with patience - like me.

Update:

Wohlmöglich habe ich mich vertan, was das Tragen von einem Ei angeht.
Da Lasius niger nur die Larven überwintern lässt, wird es sich wahrscheinlich um eine Larven handeln.
Also ist die Volkszählung auch eine andere:

Gyne/Königin: 1
Ei: 0
Larve: ca. 11
Puppe: 0
Arbeiterinnen/Pygmäen: ca. 11

Maybe I had make a mistake with the egg.
Lasius niger only let the grubs alive while they are in dormancy. That is the reason why the queen didn't take an egg with her mandibles, but she take a grub.

The census of the population is now:

Eggs: 0
Grubs: round about 11
Cocoons: 0
Workers/Pygmies: round about 11

Guten Morgen,

da eine Vielzahl gerne auch Urlaubsbilder von Ameisenhaufen sehen wollte, poste ich ein, bzw. zwei Bilder von Gebirgswaldameisen, bzw. deren Bauten, die ich beim Wandern entdeckt habe.

Fundort ist der an der österreichischen Grenze gelegene Spitzstein (1596m) in den Chiemgauer Alpen.

Tag 13 (18.11.2013)

Viel gibt es in der Winterruhe ja leider nicht zu berichten. Bei einer routinemäßigen Kontrolle (die ich alle 3 Tage mache, war ich so frei und habe ein Bild gemacht, soweit es ging.

Man erkennt schön das Völkchen, wie es quasi nichts macht.
Komischerweise hatte die Königin beim Zurückpacken ein Ei zwischen den Mandibeln. Hatte sie Hunger? Oder wollte sie es nur wieder zurückpacken? Eier legen bei 7°C ist wohl etwas übertrieben, oder?

Darüber hinaus habe ich die Arena ja wie bereits erwähnt umdekoriert. Hier nun mein fertiger Entwurf:

Good morning,

some of you guys wanted pics from my summer holiday and my discoveries of ants.

I found some anthills of the mountain wood ants at the Spitzstein (1596m) in the Chiemgauer Alps.

More over there is an update of yesterday:

Day 13 (Nov. 18th 2013)

It is only a little update, because there isn't many interesting things to tell you, while the ants are in dormancy.

While I checked the ants (I checked them almost every three days), I took a picture of them (above).

You can see the colony while they are doing nothing. :P

The queen has strangely enough an egg between her mandibles. Was she hungry? Or wanted she only put it back to the others? With 7°C it is a bit too cold to lay eggs, isn't it?

I'm looking forward to seeing the ants how they discover the arena and their moving in the farm.

Guten Morgen,

ich habe meiner Meinung nach die Arena und die Farm so gut wie fertig eingerichtet.
Nur der Ausbruchschutz fehlt, aber der wird erst kurz vor Ende der Winterruhe angebracht.

Jetzt brauch ich aber ehrlich eure Meinung.
Geht die Arena/Farm? Oder ist das zu viel?

Ich bin jetzt am Überlegen, ob ich nicht einfach statt Granulat und Streu, eine gehärtete Sand-Lehm-Mischung als Bodengrund nehme und darauf dann vereinzelnd Kieselsteine und die Baumrinden packe.

Wäre meiner Meinung nach besser. Hach ja, die Ameisen^^
Denen geht es gut, verharren halt in einer Art Starre und bewegen nur träge die Fühler.

Für alle Einsteiger, wie ich einer bin, heißt so eine Winterruhe in erster Linie: Geduld!

Denn man kann quasi nichts machen außer Warten und Vorbereitungen treffen.
Ich kann euch sagen, auch wenn es meine erste Winterruhe ist und ich quasi mit der Winterruhe die Haltung von Ameisen angefangen habe, dass sich das Warten lohnt.
Durch die unzähligen Haltungsberichte ist meine Neugier noch mehr gestiegen und die Faszination deutlich verstärkt worden.

Durch Dokumentationen auf Youtube, Vimeo oder im TV, bzw. auf DVD/Blu Ray und die ganze Literatur weiß ich, dass ich dadurch ein neues Hobby gewonnen habe.

Hier nun die Bilder der Arena und Farm:

 Die Farm ist mit mehrfarbiger Sand-Lehm-Mischung gefüllt und hat einen Deckel, unter den ich eine Thermo- & Hygrometer-Station angebracht habe.

Die Dichtungsbänder werden noch entfernt. Sie dienen mir lediglich als Anhaltspunkt für meinen späteren Ausbruchschutz.

Ich werde zwei Stationen für Futter und Wasser anbieten.
Für die höher gelegene Station werden besondere Leckerbissen bereitgestellt.

Um Belüftung der Arena brauche ich mir da wohl keine Sorgen machen :D

Good morning,

i have almost furnished my arena and farm. I only have to add the jailbreak safety, but I will add it shortly before the end of the dormancy.

I really need your opinion about my arena and farm.

Are both okay or is it too much?

I think about a removal of the granulate and strewing and an addition of a hardened sand-clay-mixture as a ground. Then some stones and the tree bark.

I think it is better.

The ants doing well. They poise in a kind of stickness and move lazy their antenna.

For all Antkeeping beginner, such as me, you have to have this: Patience! Much patience!

You can't do anything , when you have doing already the preperation of the arena and farm.

I can say to you all, even if this is my first dormany and I habve start my antkeeping with it, that it will be worth to wait!

With uncount antkeeping reports my interest grows and grows and my fascination is dtronger than ever.

And with documantations about ants at youtube, vimeo or in the TV or on dvd, blu-ray and all kind of books, I learned, that antkeeping is my new hobby!

I used for the farm an multicolour sand-clay-mixture and i put a thermo- & hygrometer station in the cover.

The sealing strip will be removed, when I add the jailbreak safety.

I have to stations for food and water. On the higher station I choose premium food.

I don't be worried about the ventilation of my arena ;)

endlich ist das Paket vom Anstore angekommen, um meine Arena einzurichten.

Habe auch direkt mal einen schnellen Entwurf gemacht, vielleicht lasse ich das so.
Wie findet ihr den?
Verbesserungsvorschläge, Kritik/Lob, etc. gerne gesehen.
